This Legal Update reports on significant changes to the local and federal rules and procedures for all US federal district and appellate courts between May 15 and May 21, 2013. It also reports on changes to the individual practice rules for judges in select district courts during this time period.
District of Columbia Circuit
District of Columbia Court of Appeals
The US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit posted its policy regarding messengers and couriers.
Fifth Circuit
Middle District of Louisiana
The US District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana now requires a new civil cover sheet.
Western District of Louisiana
The US District Court for the Western District of Louisiana amended its Local Rule 83.2.2, regarding eligibility, to read as follows:
"Any member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of Louisiana who is in Good Standing with that Court is eligible for admission to and practice before this Court. Should any member's status as being in Good Standing in Louisiana lapse at any date for any reason, then his/her right to practice in this Court shall be deemed lapsed as of the same date. However, any member whose status in Good Standing lapses for reasons other than disciplinary may, nonetheless, still apply for admission pro hac vice."
