A Checklist of issues to consider when engaging in civil motion practice in Massachusetts Superior Court. This Checklist addresses procedures under Massachusetts Superior Court Rule 9A, including complying with formatting, length, and content requirements, preparing a motion, opposition, cross-motion (including a motion to strike), reply, and surreply, requesting leave of court for a filing, requesting a hearing, serving and filing documents, and calculating deadlines.
This Checklist does not cover summary judgment, emergency, ex parte, special process server motions, motions involving incarcerated persons, or motions for reconsideration. It also does not cover motions in cases seeking judicial review of an administrative agency proceeding where Massachusetts Superior Court Standing Order 1-96 specifies a different procedure.
