Distribution network operator (DNO)

As used for electricity, an entity that operates an onshore electricity distribution network, which includes all parts of the network from 230V up to and including 132kV in England and Wales. In Scotland, DNOs operate all parts of the network up to but not including 132kV as 132kV is considered to be part of the transmission network rather than the distribution network. Most DNOs hold a distribution licence. DNO is often used to refer to the licensed DNOs that operate in 14 geographical areas in Great Britain and were formerly part of a public electricity supply (PES) business.
