This note summarises the key international nature conservation conventions and designations, including the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, Ramsar Convention on wetlands of international importance, Bern Convention on conservation of European wildlife and natural habitats, Bonn Convention on conservation of migratory species, Convention on the Protection of the Marine Environment of the North-East Atlantic (OSPAR) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). It also summarises EU and UK implementation.
