Law stated as of 31 Dec 2022USA (National/Federal)
This Chart tracked the Department of Justice (DOJ) Antitrust Division's investigation into the broiler chicken industry cartel. The DOJ alleged that the defendants conspired to rig bids and to fix, maintain, stabilize, and raise prices and other price-related terms for broiler chicken products. Broilers are chickens raised for human consumption that are sold to grocers and restaurants. Of the companies and individuals charged in the conspiracy, Pilgrim's Pride was the only defendant to enter a plea agreement, agreeing to a fine of $107,923,572. All other defendants were either found not guilty or saw the complaints dismissed on the government's motion.
