There are 34 insurance associations in the PRC, 33 of which are at the municipal or provincial level. The IAC operates at the national level. The main function of the insurance associations is to assist the CIRC as an additional channel of regulatory control. The IAC has introduced model insurance policy wordings. Local associations issue guidance notes or broker market agreements signed by all their members.
