Australian Securities Exchange (ASX)

The primary Australian securities exchange that facilitates public trading of issued financial products (including shares) of participating companies. Public companies that wish to have their shares or other securities able to be publicly traded will usually undertake an initial public offering (IPO) to be admitted to the official list and have their securities quoted on the ASX.
For more information on IPOs, see Practice notes: overview, Initial public offerings of equity securities by companies and Initial public offerings and ASX listings of foreign companies. For a guide to Practical Law's resources relating to IPOs, see Toolkit, Initial public offerings. See also Practical Law's topic Initial public offerings.
ASX may also refer to ASX Limited, the market operator, as the context requires.
