PLC Tax will be attending a workshop run by HMRC on Friday 5 September which is seeking the views of business and advisers on:
1. Difficulties in applying the various "unallowable purpose" tests in tax anti-avoidance legislation and the transactions in securities rules in section 703 of the Income and Corporation Taxes Act 1988 and Chapter 1 Part 13 of the Income Tax Act .
2. Various options for simplifying those rules.
This workshop is being held as part of HMRC's anti-avoidance simplication review. If you would like to email us [email protected] with your comments on the issues raised by HMRC on these two areas in its 17 July 2008 update (see Legal update, HMRC update on simplifying anti-avoidance legislation published and Feedback questions), we would be happy to pass your views on at the workshop. We will report on the outcome of the workshop in a future PLC Tax update.
