On 28 July 2008, HM Treasury launched three consultations on changes to the tax regime for asset management. The three consultations propose:
1. A direct tax exemption for UK authorised investment funds.
2. Replacing the substantial holding rules for qualified investor schemes.
3. Creating a new tax regime to enable investment trusts to invest in interest-bearing assets tax efficiently.
