This note provides an overview of the Deposit Guarantee Schemes Directive (2014/49/EU) (DGSD). The DGSD requires EU member states to introduce at least one deposit guarantee scheme (DGS) in their jurisdiction to provide protection for depositors and to reduce the risk of bank runs.
