Codicil (Scotland)

A document that amends a previously executed will. Amendments made by a codicil may be small (for example, changing the executors) or may change the will significantly. A codicil must comply with the same legal requirements for formal and essential validity, and be executed in the same way, as a will.
For information on the formal and essential validity of wills and codicils, see Practice note: Validity of wills: overview (Scotland). For information on the execution requirements for wills and codicils, see Practice note, Executing wills and codicils (Scotland).
