Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) (工业和信息化部)
A central government ministry sitting under the State Council to oversee areas including the internet, telecommunications, broadcasting, postal delivery, computer and other electronic hardware and software management. The MIIT has subordinate offices (that is, local communications bureaus) operating across China.
The MIIT is responsible for matters including:
- Guiding the construction of the information system.
- Promoting the development of major technological equipment and indigenous innovation.
- Safeguarding the information security.
