A Practice Note on the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), which applies in the context of claims involving a federal employee's tortious conduct and enables a private party to sue the US government for damages in limited circumstances. This Note addresses waiver of US sovereign immunity and federal employee immunity under the FTCA, the requirements for a claim under the FTCA (including administrative exhaustion), available remedies, statute of limitations and other procedural issues, and exceptions to the waiver of sovereign immunity under the FTCA.
