CARES Act: Small Business Administration Paycheck Protection Program: Lender Guidance | Practical Law

On March 27, 2020, the US Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in the US. The CARES Act provided economic relief to individuals and businesses facing economic hardship due to the pandemic. Under the CARES Act, the Small Business Administration (SBA) offered loans under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) (Sections 1102 and 1106) and loan advances under the Economic Injury Disaster Loan Program (EIDL) (Section 1110). On December 27, 2020, President Trump signed into law the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 (2021 CAA) to extend the PPP and authorize the SBA to guarantee additional PPP loans (Second Draw PPP Loans) to eligible borrowers. On March 30, 2021, the PPP Extension Act of 2021 (Extension Act) extended the SBA’s authority to guarantee PPP loans through June 30, 2021.
