The
Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China
(CPCPD), when exercising press and publication administration functions, is externally known as the NPPA (see
Practice Note, Understanding the 2018 Government Institutional Reform: China: Propaganda and Media
).
The NPPA's major responsibilities include:
Implementing the CPC's propaganda principles and policies.
Formulating policies for press and publication industry management and supervise their implementation.
Managing press and publication administrative affairs.
Co-ordinating and guiding press publications and industry development.
Supervising and managing the content and quality of publications, the printing industry and importation of publications.
