Preventing deforestation: deforestation-free products and timber (EU) | Practical Law

This note explains the main regimes to prevent illegal deforestation in relation to products in EU supply chains. The EU Illegal Timber Regulation (995/2010) prohibits illegally harvested timber and products derived from such timber from being placed on the EU market, and imposes related supply chain due diligence requirements. It is being repealed and replaced by the EU Deforestation-free Products Regulation (2023/1115), which extends the prohibition and supply chain due diligence requirements to additional commodities and products, as well as timber.
