EU publishes official draft of Directive on data retention | Practical Law

Following the European Parliament's adoption in December 2005 of a compromise proposal for the amendment of the draft Directive on data retention (see Legal update, European Parliament approves Council amendments to draft Directive on data retention), the EU has published the official version of the revised Directive. The formal adoption of the Directive is expected shortly, and member states will have 18 months after the date of adoption within which to implement the Directive (or 36 months in relation to the retention of internet data).
