The US Copyright Office seeks comment on a proposed list of works that may be exempt from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's (DMCA) prohibition against circumvention. The Copyright Office initiated this rulemaking process in accordance with the DMCA.
On December 20, 2011, the US Copyright Office announced that it is seeking comment on proposals to exempt certain classes of works from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's (DMCA) anti-circumvention provisions. The list of proposed classes was compiled through public comment as part of a rulemaking proceeding under the DMCA. The purpose of the rulemaking is to determine whether the DMCA's prohibition on circumvention adversely affects, or is likely to adversely affect, users' ability to make noninfringing uses of particular classes of works.
Comments on the proposed classes of work will be accepted by the Copyright Office through March 2, 2012.
