The China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and the Shanghai sub-commission have reportedly parted ways.
The CIETAC Shanghai sub-commission, a branch office of CIETAC, recently announced a split from CIETAC, with plans to become an independent institution with its own rules and panel of arbitrators. CIETAC responded with a Statement declaring the Shanghai sub-commission's conduct to be a violation of the Arbitration Law of China and the relevant regulations of the State Council, as well as CIETAC's Articles of Association. The statement goes on to renounce the sub-commission's actions as null and void. CIETAC also released an An Open Letter to All Arbitrators, appealing for them to continue to strictly follow the laws and CIETAC's Arbitration Rules in their arbitration activities.
