The China International Arbitration Club was formally launched on 15 December 2009, with the aim of providing a meeting point for, and acting as a bridge between, Chinese and foreign arbitrators, legal counsel and arbitration users.
The inaugural meeting of the Club was held in Beijing, entitled "Current Practical Problems in Arbitrating Chinese-Foreign Business Disputes", and presentations were made by arbitration practitioners from both within and outside China.
The Club is open to lawyers, arbitrators, corporate counsel and academics with an interest in international arbitration and China, and it will serve as a forum for both practitioners and academics to gather and debate controversial issues in international arbitration.
Over the next year, it is understood that the Club aims to conduct training, organise meetings and conferences and also establish a panel of arbitrators consisting of members capable of conducting proceedings in Chinese and English and who possess specialist knowledge and experience of Chinese-foreign dispute settlement practices.
Membership is free, and the secretariat's email address is [email protected].
