Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)

An independent federal agency responsible for protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death caused by imported and US-made consumer products. The CPSC performs its duties by enforcing various consumer protection laws, including the Consumer Product Safety Act of 1972 (CPSA) (15 U.S.C. § 2051-2089). These laws give the CPSC jurisdiction to regulate most consumer products, including:
  • Appliances.
  • Household chemicals.
  • Fabrics.
  • Children's products.
  • Infant and toddler products.
