Notice to the Bar
A notice to licensed attorneys in New Jersey, typically from:
- The Administrative Director of the Courts, often attaching an order from the New Jersey Supreme Court that generally:
- announces a new practice or procedure (for example, the implementation of mandatory electronic filing using eCourts or the Judiciary Electronic Document Submission (JEDS) system, as applicable) (see Practice Note, Filing Methods: Overview (NJ));
- amends or relaxes the New Jersey Rules of Court, New Jersey Rules of Professional Conduct, or New Jersey Rules of Evidence (see Practice Note, New Jersey Rule Amendments: Overview);
- requests public comment on a proposed rule, practice, or procedure.
- The Assignment Judge of a Superior Court vicinage (a trial court district consisting of one or more counties), highlighting a new practice or procedure.
Although less common, Notices to the Bar can also be issued by:
- The Clerk of the Supreme Court.
- The Director of the New Jersey Lawyers' Fund for Client Protection.
- The Chief Counsel of the New Jersey Disciplinary Board.
