Ministry of Justice (MOJ) (司法部)

A central government ministry sitting under the State Council.
The MOJ's functions include:
  • Drafting relevant laws and administrative regulations.
  • Co-ordinating legislative tasks and the enforcement of administrative laws and regulations.
  • Guiding government departments responding to administrative reconsideration cases.
  • Supervising lawyers and public notaries.
  • Managing forensic institutions and arbitration commissions.
  • Providing judicial assistance.
(See MOJ website.)
The MOJ has been reorganised by absorbing functions of the dismantled Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council (LAOSC) under China's massive government institutional reform in 2018 (see Practice note, Understanding the 2018 government institutional reform: China: State Council massive re-organisation).
