Glossary
National People's Congress (NPC) (全国人民代表大会(全国人大))
The highest organ of Chinese state power. It is elected for a term of five years and must meet in session once a year. Among other powers, the Constitution gives the NPC power to:
Amend the Constitution.
Supervise the Constitution's enforcement.
Enact and amend basic laws.
Elect, appoint and remove top officials including China's president, the premier of the State Council and the president of the Supreme People's Court.
Approve the state budget, plans for national economic and social development, and reports on the implementation of those plans.
