Local People's Court (地方人民法院)
A court of first instance in China, handling criminal and civil cases. The local people's courts include the following:
- Higher people's court, set up at the level of:
- provinces;
- autonomous regions; and
- directly administered municipalities.
- Intermediate people's court, set up at the level of:
- prefectures;
- autonomous prefectures; and
- municipalities.
- Basic level people's court, hearing cases at the level of:
- autonomous counties;
- towns; and
- municipal districts.
