Export Credit Insurance

A type of trade credit insurance used where the sale is a cross-border transaction. It is insurance that provides protection against the risk of nonpayment by a foreign buyer in an open account sale transaction. Export credit insurance is purchased not only by export businesses, but also by banks and other financial institutions that provide export financing.
