This article explains the reason for uncertainty around the position of general counsel (GC) of an authorised firm in the context of the senior managers regime (SMR) for banks, describes the current approach being taken by many firms, and discusses the potential implications for both GCs and authorised firms if the legal function were to be included in SMR.
