This article introduces China's changing environmental priorities and policies, and the government's commitment to strengthening environmental protections in China following the 19th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party in October 2017. The reforms discussed in this article include China's aggressive environmental enforcement actions, the development of pollutant discharge permitting rules and a national emissions trading scheme.
