Joint Committee

The Joint Committee established under Article 164 of the UK-EU withdrawal agreement, which:
  • Comprises UK and EU representatives and is co-chaired at ministerial level by a member of the European Commission and a representative of the UK government.
  • Meets at least once a year and on request by the UK or the EU.
  • Supervises and facilitates the implementation and application of the withdrawal agreement, decides on the tasks of the Specialised Committees and supervises their work, and provides a forum for consultation under the withdrawal agreement dispute settlement mechanism.
  • Adopts decisions and makes recommendations by mutual consent. Decisions are binding and can include decisions amending the withdrawal agreement.
The withdrawal agreement also established six Specialised Committees which report to the Joint Committee, and the Joint Consultative Working Group on the implementation of the Northern Ireland Protocol which reports to the Specialised Committee on the Northern Ireland Protocol.
