Tour support

Sums paid by record labels to their artists to cover the shortfall in touring and live performance costs. New artists rarely initially make money from touring; the costs of putting on a tour outweighs the ticket receipts. Some record labels will assist artists to ensure that they are able to put on tours without being out of pocket, as touring can be valuable promotion for the artist's recordings. Tour support is almost always recoupable (see Recoupment) from the artist's royalties (see Royalty).
