Glossary

National minimum wage order

A national minimum wage order made in the annual wage review conducted by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) each financial year (sections 12 and 285, Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) (FW Act)).
The national minimum wage order sets the national minimum wage and casual loading employers are required to pay for award/agreement free employees. That is, employees to which a modern award or enterprise agreement does not apply (section 294(1)(a) and (c) and (2), FW Act).
A special national minimum wage order applies to trainees, apprentices, junior employees and employees with a disability (section 294(1)(b), FW Act).
A national minimum wage order continues until the next national minimum wage order comes into operation (section 299, FW Act).
The national minimum wage from 1 July 2023 is $882.80 per week, or $23.23 per hour. The minimum casual loading is 25%.
