A summary of the economic and financial support measures announced by the Commonwealth government and Western Australian government in response to the public health restrictions occasioned by July and August 2021 outbreaks of COVID-19 in Australia.

Support package for Western Australian tourism businesses

The federal government (Commonwealth Government) and the Western Australian government (WA Government) have announced eligible tourism businesses in Western Australia will be able to apply for grants of up to $10,000 to assist with some of the financial impacts as a result of the public health restrictions throughout Australia due to outbreaks of the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in July and August 2021.
Grants will be available to eligible businesses in the following amounts:
  • $2,000 for sole traders and employing businesses with an annual turnover between $50,000 and $100,000.
  • $5,000 for employing businesses with an annual turnover between $100,000 and $1 million.
  • $10,000 for employing businesses with an annual turnover between $1 million and $10 million.
To be eligible, businesses must:
  • Demonstrate at least a 30% reduction in turnover by comparing the 15 May - 25 June 2021 period with the 10 July – 20 August 2021 period.
  • Be either:
    • registered with Tourism WA as a previous grant recipient or as part of the agency’s marketing campaigns in 2020 or 2021;
    • a member of, or accredited through, a relevant tourism organisation as of 22 August 2021; or
    • a travel agent that has been offering domestic product to travellers.
  • Have an active and valid Australian Business Number (ABN).
  • Be located in Western Australia.
