The California Attorney General has issued a guide for small businesses to protect against cyber attacks and data breaches.
On February 27, 2014, California Attorney General Kamala Harris issued a press release announcing recommendations to help California businesses protect against and respond to the increasing threat of malware, data breaches and other cyber risks. The guide, entitled Cybersecurity in the Golden State, sets out recommendations focused on small to mid-sized businesses. The Attorney General noted that these businesses:
  • Are particularly vulnerable to cybercrime.
  • Often do not have the resources to hire cybersecurity personnel.
The Attorney General noted that in 2012, 50% of all cyber attacks targeted businesses with fewer than 2,500 employees and 31% targeted those with fewer than 250 employees.
The guide is available on the California Attorney General's website.
