An employee handbook is the most usual form of company rules and regulations that Article 4 of the Labour Contract Law of the People's Republic of China 2012 requires companies to adopt. Article 4 imposes procedure requirements on an employer adopting an employee handbook. The grounds for unilateral termination are limited under Chinese employment law, and major violation of company rules and regulations is the ground most often relied on in practice.
