Y-grade (US)

Also known as raw make or raw mix. In the US oil and gas industry, the quality grading given to mixed hydrocarbon gas liquids or natural gas liquids (NGLs) that have not yet been separated into purity products by fractionation.
Raw natural gas is often treated at gas processing plants to obtain pipeline quality natural gas and NGLs in blended liquid form. This Y-grade NGL stream may then be shipped by pipeline to fractionation plants for further processing.
For more information on natural gas processing and fractionation, see Practice Notes, Gas Processing Agreements: Overview and Fractionation Agreements: Overview. For a form of gas processing agreement, see Standard Document, Gas Processing Agreement. For information on the US midstream sector generally, see Practice Note, US Oil & Gas Industry: Overview: Oil & Gas Industry Segment: Midstream.
