On 20 March 2014, Xinhuanet reported that China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is currently investigating restrictions imposed by local government regulations related to taxi hailing apps. The MIIT has also launched a probe of the apps' development and their effect on the taxi industry and asked the companies operating these apps to submit information regarding this.
