In the light of COP 26, this article provides an overview of the geopolitical risks that financial institutions face in relation to environmental, social and governmental (ESG) aspects of global governmental policies. It discusses corporate citizenship, enhanced state intervention, the rise of populism, the intensifying focus on the "S" and "G", the new green hubs versus the issue of developing countries, the lack of international regulatory harmonization and human rights compliance obligations.
