Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC)

The Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC) is a non-profit organization created by the Securities Investor Protection Act of 1970. SIPC was created to oversee the liquidation of member broker-dealers that are bankrupt or in financial trouble where customer assets are missing. During a SIPC liquidation, a court-appointed trustee will work to return missing customer assets.
