A Practice Note discussing the US economic and trade sanctions against Venezuela, including the designation of Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PdVSA) to the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List (SDN List) and the subsequent blocking of all property of the Venezuelan government. This Note discusses the Office of Foreign Assets Control's (OFAC) sanctions programs in general, the background of and legal framework for the US sanctions on Venezuela, and the US sanctions and export controls that are currently in place on Venezuela.
