The Consumer Data Right | Practical Law
The Treasury Laws Amendment (Consumer Data Right) Act 2019 (Cth) amends the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth), the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Information Commissioner Act 2010 (Cth) to introduce the Consumer Data Right (CDR), incorporating the concept known as Open Banking. The CDR provides, among other things, consumers (which may include both individuals and businesses) with a right to effectively and efficiently access specified data held about them by businesses and direct the transfer of that data to other accredited data recipients as prescribed by the Competition and Consumer (Consumer Data Right) Rules 2020 (Cth).
