Glossary

Residence

The place where one makes a home. In contrast to a domicile, a person may have more than one residence at a time. For bankruptcy venue purposes, residence means a permanent residence, one's home, as distinguished from a mere stopping place for the transaction of either business or pleasure.
The application of residence to business entities is unclear. Some courts have held that only an individual can have a residence (see In re Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publ'g Co., 474 B.R. 122, 135 (Bankr. S.D.N.Y. 2012)).
