A Practice Note discussing the types of partisan political activity that are permitted or prohibited for federal employees. This Note addresses the Hatch Act, which restricts partisan political activity by federal civilian employees in the executive branch and protects employees from political coercion, and the Civil Service Reform Act's (CSRA) third prohibited personnel practice (PPP), which prohibits coercing political activity or retaliating against an employee for refusing to engage in political activity. This Note addresses federal law and procedures for federal sector employees.
