ICO publishes new model publication scheme | Practical Law

The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) has published a draft model publication scheme (Scheme). The Scheme is designed to facilitate compliance by public authorities with their obligations under section 19 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, which requires every public authority to adopt and maintain a publication scheme which has been approved by the Information Commissioner and to publish information in accordance it. The publication of the Scheme follows a series of sector-specific workshops held between January and August 2007, at which plans for a comprehensive revision of the operation of publication schemes were discussed with public-authority stakeholders. The revised policy currently consists of three proposed elements including the Scheme, sector-specific definition documents (which will give examples of particular pieces of information to be published by authorities in a specific sector) and a guide, to be drafted by each authority, regarding the information it makes available and the format in which it can be accessed.
