The Regulation of Financial Services (Land Transactions) Act 2005 received Royal Assent on 19 December 2005 and will come into force on 19 February 2006.
The Act provides for regulation by the Financial Services Authority of home reversion schemes (schemes that enable an elderly person to sell a share of the equity in their home in return for an annual income) and Ijara products (mortgage-like arrangements compatible with Shari'a law to enable Muslims to buy a house).
