This note provides guidance on how the insolvency procedures in the Insolvency Act 1986 are applied, with modifications, to a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO). It provides an overview of the rescue (voluntary arrangement and administration) and liquidation (voluntary and compulsory) procedures as they apply to CIOs. It also provides guidance on floating charges and the effect of insolvency on a CIO's members and charity trustees.
