This note discusses the nature of international human rights law; the mechanisms by which a business or business leader can be held liable for an adverse human rights impact; and the steps that a business should take to put the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights into operation and thereby reduce the risk of an adverse human rights impact.
