An arrangement between two or more patent holders to cross-license patents related to a particular technology or to license the patents as a group to third parties. Patent pools are common in industries where compliance with an industry standard would infringe numerous patents held by multiple entities, and in high-tech industries where a single product may involve thousands of patents.
