Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN)

A not-for-profit organization formed in 1998 to coordinate the internet domain name system (DNS) and serve as a central administrator of domain names and internet protocol (IP) addresses. ICANN also set up a system for accrediting domain name registrars, setting minimum standards for their performance, and recognizing the persons and entities meeting those standards.
