Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)

Australia's corporate, markets and financial services regulator. ASIC is an independent Commonwealth Government body that is set up under the Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001 (AA 2001), and administers the AA 2001 and the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) (CA 2001). ASIC's priorities are:
  • To promote investor and financial consumer trust and confidence, through the administration and enforcement of the CA 2001, including the takeover provisions in Chapter 6 of the CA 2001.
  • To ensure fair, orderly and transparent markets.
  • To provide efficient and accessible registration of companies and managed investment schemes.
