Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is a federal agency that is part of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). CMS is involved with administering Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CMS also assists in overseeing certain requirements under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) (see HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Toolkit).
